The Hahnemühle Sugar Cane watercolor paper is the latest addition to the Hahnemühle Natural Line.
The paper, weighing 290 g/m², is made from 70% fast-growing fibers from sugar cane, known as bagasse, a byproduct of sugar extraction.
With 70% sugar cane and 30% cotton, the natural white watercolor paper with warm tones combines the strength of sugar cane fibers and the softness of cotton. These fibers are also plant residues from the textile industry.
The paper has a cold-pressed surface structure that has a wonderful velvety feel.
It works excellently with watercolor, gouache, and all "wet on wet" techniques.
The colors shine brilliantly and velvety. The natural fibers of the sugar cane give the paper high stability and tear resistance, allowing it to absorb large amounts of water and colors without the fibers standing up or the paper warping significantly. The colors dissolve easily on the surface and can be glazed again. The paper handles color gradients and effects, such as salt or water drops, as well as fine lines and highlights with fine markers.
