Impasto medium with a natural hue and oil consistency for oil paints by Schmincke.
The main purpose of impasto is to create a rich texture and surface texture on the painting. When applied thickly with a brush, palette knife, or other painting tools, the paints create three-dimensional effects, adding depth and dynamism to the artwork.
Impasto allows artists to express themselves through gestures of painting. The thick layer of paint can convey intensity and energy, which is particularly valued in abstract painting. Impasto can be used to model the form and structure of depicted objects. The artist can use impasto to enhance the texture of trees, stones, or other elements of the landscape.
The impasto medium contains substances that accelerate the drying process of oil paints. This allows artists to work with a thick layer of paint without having to wait a long time for it to dry. The thick layer of paint can affect the reflection of light, giving intensity and depth to the colors. This is especially important in abstract or expressive painting.
