Turpentine medium from Schmincke, also known as turpino, is a substance used in oil painting.
It is an effective solvent for oil paints, allowing for easy mixing and thinning of the paints. It also helps to shorten the drying time of oil paints, which is especially useful for artists who want to speed up their workflow.
Turpino is also used for thinning oil paints, allowing for a variety of effects, from transparent layers to thicker impasto. It can also be used to dissolve some types of oil varnishes, which is important in the painting process. Adding turpino to oil paints allows for easier color mixing as well as creating fine transitions between them.
After painting, turpino is used to clean brushes and other painting tools from paint residues.
