Winsor & Newton CLEANING LIQUID FOR PAINTINGS is a natural resin/oil emulsion containing ammonia, designed for cleaning varnished paintings. It acts by dissolving the oxidation of linseed oil and will remove surface dirt and oxidation products in the old varnish. Please note that a painting that needs to be stripped of old varnish should be entrusted to a competent restorer. Unvarnished paintings can also be treated with CLEANING LIQUID FOR PAINTINGS, but great care is required and the process should be stopped immediately if it appears that any color is coming off the painting. Shake before and during use. Clean small areas with cotton swabs. When cleaning is finished, remove any remaining cleaner with distilled turpentine.
