Linseed oil is a traditional plant solvent for oil painting. It is used to dilute paints and enhance the brightness and gloss of their colors.
The refined linseed oil for painting from "Winsor & Newton" has a light yellowish tint and a soft glossy finish. It dries slowly and increases the drying time of the colors. It is used to thin thick oil paints, which not only allows for easier application and blending of brush strokes but also enhances the transparency and depth of the applied layers.
